1. Pulling of the hair. The pulling of the hair doesn’t start when your baby learns how to use her hands and fingers. It starts immediately and in the beginning it’s kind of cute, by day 4 it’s really annoying and kind of painful. It’s especially frustrating when your hair starts naturally falling out (postpartum) at an alarming rate and you get the added bonus of your baby pulling out even more. I had little brina hair dolls all over the place. Rod was not impressed. My solution, since my hair is long and I’ve been putting off booking a hair appointment for 4 months because I’m like that, was to put it in a braid. Brilliant!! The braid is good because she can pull on it and try and put it in her mouth and it doesn’t hurt. You can also put your hair up and out of reach but that also gets old. The braid is my new favorite. It could be yours too…or maybe you just decided to chop it off. I’ve contemplated that option as well.

2. Clothes Sizes. In the beginning, when she’s 0-3 months old, clothing sizes were a breeze for us. She was pretty average in weight and length but the older she gets, the trickier it gets. Right now Phoenix is 4.5 months and she is wearing 0-3 month clothes, 3-6 month clothes and 6 month clothes. It was only by accident, as I tried to organize her upcoming wardrobe, that I noticed a really small 6 month piece. It was as big as the 3 month clothes I have. So I started going through all her 6 month and up clothes and I found a few more items that she completely fits in. If I had waited until she was 6 months, I would have had to either pack it away or put it on her for a few days and then pack it away. Tricky!

3. Seasonal Clothes. Before Phoenix was born, Rod and I got giddy when we came across a discount cart at Extra Foods with racks of cheap Joe Fresh baby clothes. Without thinking about it, we ended up with a few 3-6 items that were tank tops, shorts and other adorable summer pieces. Phoenix will be 3-6 months in the winter time! WHOPS! I ended up keeping them because I really liked them and I’ve come up with the most brilliant solution – layers! I bet you thought of that like 3 sentences ago. It took us a while but we figured it out and now we’re laughing. My mom bought us a bunch of tights (which I at first thought was ridiculous) and we just put those on under her summery shorts or tank top onesies. She’s warm and summery looking.
