Breath & Body Awareness Mini-Series

Monday’s March 1st and 8th at 7:30-8:30 pm
Cost: $36 + taxes

In this series we will learn safe and simple breath and body awareness techniques to aid with the following: stress, insomnia, body pain and tension, depression, and disease. All are welcome. No experience is necessary. It is recommended that you wear loose and comfortable, layered clothing. A second 6 week series to start April 11th for 6 weeks. Dates: April 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16th.

Understanding Breath
Breath is life force and essential to supporting all the functions and systems in our bodies. As you see in a healthy baby, the breath draws down naturally into their bellies and chest, like an ocean wave, without thought or holding or restriction. As we age and life “happens” many of us have developed patterns of withholding our breath and not breathing fully in our bodies. This holding can happen for a number of reasons such as stress, worry, depression, drawing up and away from pain, as a result of disease, inflexibility, atrophy etc. Breath holding or not being able to fully breathing has significant effects on our sense of well-being, sleep patterns, peace of mind and overall health.

Although you breath each and everyday what are the real quality and characteristics of your breath? Can you feel the breath drop down into your belly and lower abdomen and fill up into your upper chest side ribs and back ribs? Or is your breathing restricted in some way, due to health, stress, tension, depression, anxiety or otherwise? Would you like to feel more in your body and breath?

Since our breath is so tied to body, mind and spirit, re-learning how to breath more fully also leads to more clarity and peace of mind, an ability to make better decisions and better deal with life.
