Based on her 19 years as a city councillor in Nelson, BC, author Donna Macdonald explores the realities of elected life – the written and unwritten rules, and the human experience in her book “Surviving City Hall”.
The stories and experiences Macdonald shares are by turns humorous, surprising and even shocking. But they are always told with respect and the desire to encourage civility as citizens and their elected officials learn to live together in community. Macdonald argues our future depends on it.
The author also reflects on bigger questions, such as what good leadership looks like, the role of women in political life and what democracy and citizen engagement mean.
