The Abstract Lions art club is on! Our weekly Wednesday after-school arts club begins today and Raegan and I are super excited to get started. We will start with Line and continue each week with a different element of art. Drop-ins are welcome at $16/session but the kids still need to be registered. You can do that by going directly to: The Abstract Lion Art Club.
If you know anyone that might be interested, please feel free to pass on the information. Wednesdays, 3:45-4:45, upstairs at The Arts Station, for kids 7-11 years old (but if your kid is keen on participating we won’t turn anyone away) from January 23rd to March 13th.

Intro to Hand Building with Helena Dejong
Date: March 13th – spots go quick.
Price: $40 each class includes clay and firing
This pottery workshop gives you a chance to build your own cup and bowl. Do one to get a taster or sign up for all to try out different variations.
For more info call 250-423-4842 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
These workshops are designed to instruct you in the skills of pottery. The cost of the workshops cover the time and expertise of instructors providing the participant with an experience. Pieces made during the workshop cannot be guaranteed and pottery may not survive the firing process. The complete process also takes time to finish and pottery will not be available for at least 6 weeks after the workshop.- Refunds will only be given for requests made 7 days in advance.
This class does not involve the wheel.
The Arts Station is a cool place to be and to find people who share a love of creative expression. Maybe you have a little something you want to share with others? Maybe you want to introduce a special project with the rest of us? I’ve often thought about doing a mini workshop but it also terrifies me…so I probably won’t just yet. But you should!

What a strange year it’s turning out to be. A couple more shops are shutting down this year, Vitality Body & Mind and The Play Room, kind of unexpected for the rest of us – perhaps, not so unexpected for the owners. This on top of the other businesses – Kelvin’s Kitchen and Four Cubs who already said their good-byes.
It’s not an easy town to start a business in and the ones that last a long time are considered the lucky ones. I’m just guessing but I gather you need to prepare for really busy and completely dead and not expect one year to be anything like the last.
There are resources in the area to help and advise. CBT offers a free service to businesses in the Kootenays called Basin Business Advisors Program. Something to consider, as they’re highly recommended and running a business can be difficult.
Common areas of support include:
- financial analysis;
- business and strategic planning;
- human resources;
- competitive analysis;
- target market analysis;
- general business viability
