I imagine the propane fire pits are flying off the shelf.
From City of Fernie’s website:
Campfire Ban Effective July 26
July 26, 2018
Effective on July 26, 2018 at 1 PM a Campfire Ban for the region including the City of Fernie and area. This campfire ban will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.
The Southeast Fire Centre is currently experiencing hot and dry conditions. The fire danger rating is “moderate” in some areas, with larger areas rated “high” and “extreme”. Forest fuels are drying out quickly, and hot weather and dry lightning are in the forecast. It is crucial to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires, so the BC Wildfire Service can deal with any naturally occurring fires that start in the region.
This prohibition applies to all public and private land unless specified otherwise – for example, in a local government bylaw. Please check with local government authorities for any other restrictions before lighting any fire. Read more here.

Did you know Cranbrook Recycling Depot now accepts Styrofoam, Aluminum containers and Foil? These items, and more, cannot be recycled in Fernie but if you travel to Cranbrook, even once in a while, you can take these extra items and keep them out of the trash! Amazing.

Elk Valley Bear Aware Posting from today:
“Monday August 24. Bear sightings, bears eating garbage left outdoors, bears eating apples dumped at compost sites and on apple trees in backyards, people approaching bears and taking photos of bears reported all over Elk Valley communities. Here is a brief summary.” Read more here.
On the same note, on Wednesday, August 26th at the Fernie Bike Park Gazebo, Bear Aware is holding a free presentation on what to do when you encounter a bear.
“Due to popular demand WildSafeBC will be doing a short public presentation (30 minutes) on preventing wildlife encounters and how to safely use bear spray. Inert bear spray (bear spray without the cayenne pepper) will be used to demonstrate. This is your opportunity for hands on practice with the inert spray.” Read more here.
