Big Little Lions At The Arts Station

“Big Little Lions is the ferocious songwriting duo of Helen Austin and Paul Otten. Both successful singer/songwriters in their own right, they met while both on a conference songwriting member success panel and then a couple of years later started the band from afar, with Helen based on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada and Paul in Cincinnati, OH.

It was while Paul was producing for Helen’s JUNO Award winning album that they became Big Little Lions and together they have won many awards including 1st place in the International Songwriting Competition, the top prize of Song of the Year in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, Canadian Folk Music Awar 2015 for Ensemble of the Year.

Carmanah At The Northern – Tonight!

The Northern Bar & Stage – Saturday, January 27th from 6-9 pm

“Carmanah is stoked to return to Fernie for a performance at The Northern! Come join us for a night of live music …and reminiscing about the time we played in Fernie when all the town’s power went out so we partied with just the drums for 20 minutes. 🤘🏼

+++

Carmanah has never been afraid to reach deep into the music archives for the gritty vintage flavours that influence its modern sound. The band consistently delivers a dynamic and well-balanced performance that features Laura Mina’s soulful lead vocals supported by strong male harmonies, multiple lead instruments and a driving rhythm section. Poignant songs explore love, nature and the issues of the world. It all adds up to what New York producer Gus Van Go has approvingly coined, ‘West Coast Soul’.

The band’s first commercial album, produced with Van Go and Werner F. at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studios, is slated for release early this year.
