Fernie On Instagram : Vogue Theatre’s Best Of Business Award

View this post on Instagram

The Vogue Theatre in Fernie, B.C., has been hosting plays and movies since 1908. That’s 110 years of entertainment. In the 1950s, the Vogue Theatre was converted from a live action theatre to a movie cinema. In the ’90s, the main theatre was split into two theatres. In 2007, Dennis Djonlich bought the building and morphed it into its current manifestation. Thanks to a loyal following of residents within Fernie and the surrounding communities, the Vogue Theatre is a 2018 winner in Kootenay Business magazine’s Best of Business Awards. To find out what's keeping this theatre in vogue, read Kyle's article in our "Fernie" section. Kyle Hamilton photo #Fernie #voguetheatreferniebc

Fernie Banner Project Call For Entry

2015 Fernie Banner Project Launch Day

“Banner Project 2018

For over the past decade, Elk Valley artists have added their own air to Fernie’s streets offering works of art for the 39 banners that line Highway 3 and downtown. Now, in its 14th year, we are calling out to the artists that call the Elk Valley home to once again to contribute to Fernie’s annual Banner Project. We are thrilled to again highlight various artistic mediums from artists of all ages!

What are the adjudicators looking for? Bold colours, striking imagery that stands out from a distance, variation in themes and artistic disciplines and it has to be eyecatching to the street-level observer. What kind of mediums will be accepted? Submissions of paintings, quilts, stained glass, sculpture, pottery and photography are welcome.”

For more information, check out The Arts Station’s website.

Submissions are due Tuesday, April 3rd at 2pm, so, you have time to get organized!

Cryptic Hive – Tattoo and Art Gallery – Downtown Fernie

Cryptic Hive - Tattoo and Art in Fernie BC - Downtown

This spot used to be full of thread, cotton fabric and sewing machines…and now you would never recognize the place! It’s called Cryptic Hive. CH has been open for a while and I still haven’t been inside. I thought it was just a tattoo service but there’s also art, I’m learning, and jewelry. I’ll have to check it out.

Once again, I’m amazed at all the art in this small town. There are more art galleries than sport shops in Fernie! Truth.
