I’m going to be in Calgary for a market at the end of the month and I’m thinking “What shows are playing?” So i find this concert playing on the first night I’m in the big city and it’s The Beaches. I check them out. They’re okay BUT Taylor Knox is opening up for The Beaches and I would totally go to that show just to see Mr. Knox. Mr. Knox sews socks on box for fox, sir. What do you think?
If this doesn’t get you excited…
SATURDAY JULY 17TH ///// SOULS OF MISCHIEF LIVE AT BULLDOGS ///// $10 AT THE DOOR
The solo tour of John Mann, also known as Mister Mann, is taking him all around Canada and tomorrow night he will be stopping in Fernie for an acoustic set at The Arts Station. John Mann was in Fernie only a year ago when Spirit Of The West played at Fernie Alpine Resort for Fernival and believe or not he’s managing shows for both his solo work and Spirit Of The West. That’s a crazy schedule if you ask me.
A little about Mr Mann from his website: Mister Mann is the solo project of Spirit of the West’s front man and songwriter John Mann. After 11 albums and countless tours of the UK, Europe and North America with Spirit, December Looms is a return to Mann’s stripped down Alt Folk roots.
Mann pens beautiful melodies with emotionally honest lyrics that capture the intimate moments of his hometown of Vancouver, its occupants, the fragile details of their dysfunctional love and the loss of a city’s innocence. If Damien Rice was Jeff Tweedy and Jeff Tweedy was Josh Ritter, you’d come away with something kindred to December Looms.
John Mann is also an actor of stage, film and television and currently can be seen on the CBC TV drama Intelligence, as CSIS Director, James Mallaby
