The Fernie Ghostrider 2010/2011 hockey season starts September 1st with four exhibition games. September 2nd and 4th will be in Fernie. For their full schedule, go here…they also have a blog. I think this might be the year I catch my first Ghostrider game.
Marni Wilson asked me if I wanted to join The Fernie Skating Club for a peek into one of their rehearsals for the big show coming up on 19th and 20th, and I was like “dude, you bet I do!” and I DID. On Thursday afternoon I went in and witnessed one of the sweetest things I have seen in a long time. The first 15 minutes or so was the warm up and for about 15 minutes I watched these little kids, itsy bitsy ones, bail repeatedly. It was so hard not laugh, but really, they were all charming. I’m excited to see the final production so I can watch them bail in their costumes. They try so hard!
I need to give the organizers credit for trying to organize 40 kids for Spirit of the Nations – Star Skate 2010 – a show that has been going on for many many years. I saw in the glass display a poster for a Fernie Ice Carnival in 1938! It’s still going on today! That’s amazing.
