Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to join us for a two-day Introduction to Ballet For Children on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm.
Classes will begin each day upstairs at the Fernie Museum for an artistic activity in conjunction with the Museum’s current ballet- themed exhibit, Perfect Line, and then move next door to Motion Dance Academy studio for a dance lesson. No prior dance experience required!
Parents are invited to watch a mini-performance at 2:45 pm on Sunday, April 14.
ABOUT MOTION DANCE ACADEMY
Motion Dance Academy is a dance studio in downtown Fernie that specializes in Tap, Jazz, and Ballet. We also have Creative Movement classes for 3-4 year olds. It has been around for seven years and has been growing steadily each year. Karla Hein is a certified Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT) Jazz and Tap teacher, she has just finished her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet Teaching Certificate, and she has her Bachelor of Education. Each year Motion Dance Academy participates in ADAPT Jazz and Tap Exams and RAD Ballet Exams in Cranbrook. We also attend competitions each year in Kimberley and Lethbridge. In June we celebrate everyone’s hard work and growth with a year-end recital!

An art exhibit showing off Fernie’s great landscapes is opening at Fernie Museum this Thursday, June 15th. I happen to have a painting included. Neat! 7 pm opening!
“How wanderlust and resident artists contribute to our understanding of Fernie’s natural, social, cultural and built landscapes is the subject of Fernie Artography. The exhibit draws on a wealth of artistic material ranging from the historical works of David Paton and Group of Seven artist A.Y. Jackson to works by contemporary visual artists, photographers and video artists practicing in the Elk Valley today.
Wine and cheese reception; cash bar.
Part of the Canada 150 Cultural Series presented by the Fernie Arts Station and the Fernie Museum.”

Call to Artists (by Fernie Museum)
This call to artists is for the upcoming Fernie Artography exhibit at the Fernie Museum, the third of four exhibits being presented as part of the Canada 150 Cultural Series by the Fernie Museum and the Fernie Arts Station.
Fernie Artography explores the human and natural landscapes in and around Fernie that help define the psyche of who we are as a community, including buildings, abandoned buildings, streetscapes, cultural landscapes, human landscapes (your backyard, garden, community parks, paths/trails, etc), and natural landscapes (mountain vistas, rivers, forests, and valleys).
