Huge thanks to all the wonderful people who have made the start of this tour such an absolutele pleasure! Fernie’s Summer Sunday Social is exactly like a block party, only much bigger. It was so great to take my little 3 year old to the street festival (themed Artsy Fartsy) and play with her. We got there early so my pictures make the festival look bare but there were so many people not long after 1 o’clock. There was a photo booth, street hockey, mini golf, bouncy police car, face painting, live painting, rock painting, derby car painting, horse shoes, bean bag toss and smoothie drinking. We did it all! I loved it. Thanks, Chamber of Commerce for organizing this amazing community event.
The Wednesday Socials concert and craft fair nights are happening again this summer. Every Wednesday in July and August, downtown Fernie comes to life with live music, vendors, kids’ activities and a refreshment garden in Station Square.
I wonder if food vendors are included in the “vendors” category because I think that would be a great addition to the Wednesday night socials. I barely saw any of the concerts last year but this year I’m hoping to take the kids to a couple. The problem is they’re usually so late in the night and my kids go to bed at 7. Perhaps, I’ll just come down by myself.
July 8 – Jory Kinjo and Freddy B
July 15 – Jenny Ritter – indie folk from Victoria, BC
July 22 – Cam Penner – Folk/Americana from Calgary, AB
July 29 – The Highlife Band – World Music from Seattle, WA
August 5 – Slocan Ramblers – Bluegrass from Slocan, BC
August 13 – The Burn Ins – Indie Alternative Bluegrass Garage Folk from Elkford, BC
August 19 – The Relief Commitee – Original and Classic Rock from Fernie, BC
August 26 – Old Time Music Finale and Dance
The Organizing Committee for the Wednesday Concert Series is looking for a few good volunteers! The Wednesday Concert Series runs every Wednesday in July and August starting on July 8 and ending August 26 from 5:00 to 9:00pm. This event happens at Station Square (outside The Arts Station).
We need help with set-up, take-down, serving and selling, and a myriad of other things. We especially are looking for a few people who are willing to take on a larger organizing position and be a lead person for a few of the specific Wednesdays (dates TBD).
If you like music, good people and refreshments please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
