If you want to learn about the history of Fernie Heritage Library, I suggest taking a few minutes to do so because the story is fascinating, to say the least. When I read the history of the library I was surprised at how much of a community effort it was and continues to be so to this day.
The very last part was my favourite:
Fernie Heritage Library is a monument to Fernie community spirit. Hundreds of thousands of dollars and uncounted hours of volunteer labour turned a worthy but tired city property into a legacy for future generations of Fernieites.”
I love it when people come together, and in this case through many generations, to create something beautiful. Who knew that community, the thing I tried to get away from as a 20 year old, would be the thing that makes my eyes teary – in a happy way.
