I’ve decided to start a new collection of drawings, pairing birds and a tropical or not so tropical plant. I don’t think I should limit myself. It’s no secret that I love birds. I love identifying bird songs just as much as I love drawing them and I love plants. I’m planning on creating 20 of these illustrations, a nice sized collection, and I’ve three already.: Heron, Kingfisher and Loon. These little projects bring me immense pleasure. Have yourself a wonderful day!
I’ll keep you posted on how this series is going. I know you can’t wait to find out what birds I’m going to do next.
Have you ever had an experience working on something for a long time and then all of a sudden it just makes sense? That’s way too vague. For instance, I’ve been drawing for years, maybe twenty years or more, although my art has taken on various forms and gone in many directions. Until recently I never really knew what I wanted to do. I kept trying different styles, searching for my own artistic voice…which is very hard in a world full of incredible artists. And then I did this little handsome bird:
And I said to myself, in my head because out loud I’d look even more crazy, “yes! I think I like this.” Handsome Bird lead me to pieces like this:
And I’m starting to build a catalogue of illustrations that I’m so proud of. There’s a uniform look and feel and it’s all making sense. It’s a nice place to be.
For more art head to www.annexcollections.com or check out the Fernie Arts Co-op where I’ll be selling my illustrations in the near future. We will also be selling our Annex Suspended mobiles! Whoop Whoop!

“Annex Suspended just got even better because we’re starting a sister company called Annex Collections, a place to purchase cool and creative wall art. Brina Schenk of Annex Suspended is selling her illustrations, paintings and digital art so we can offer a combination of beautiful art in various forms. We’re excited to work together and create beautiful pairings, which is how Annex Suspended began.
You can follow Annex Collections’ new journey on Facebook and Instagram, to get a look behind the scenes, see what’s coming up next and possibly get some new affordable art!”
I had the pleasure of vending back-to-back with Hop & Flop this past weekend at Market Collective. Jenny has a wide range of products from cards and cat colouring books to wrapping paper and hand painted magnets all featuring her brilliant illustrations. You should check her stuff out!
You gotta push play. I could watch it for minutes!
This morning I was inspired to make this quick drawing. I’m not sure why…there’s just something so familiar about it.
