Jesse Plessis In Recital, Fernie BC

Fernie Piano Concert with Jesse Plessis

The 88 Keys Grand Piano Society of Fernie presents this concert featuring award-winning pianist and composer Jesse Plessis, a native of Sparwood British Columbia.

Jesse is working towards recording and performing all 32 piano sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven in the year 2020 (the 250th birth year of the composer), and this concert will feature the latest addition to his repertoire – the fearsome and tragic “Appassionata” Sonata, written shortly after the composer received news of the incurability of his impending deafness. Also on the program are the Six Piano Pieces Op. 118 by Johannes Brahms – touching musings on love, loss, and life by a composer in his autumnal years. Rounding out the concert are two of Arvo Pärt’s most beloved meditations: “For Alina” and “Mirror in Mirror.”

The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. at Mountainside Community Church, 1622 Tenth Avenue. Tickets are available at the door: $20 adults, $18 seniors (65+) and youth (13 to 18).

The Fernie Academy Puts On The Wizard Of Oz

Wizard Of Oz at Mountainside Community ChurchWizard of Oz by The Fernie Academy

Last night Miss Perras, Mr Nicholson and I, Miss Schenk, went to Mountainside Community Church for The Fernie Academy’s take on The Wizard of Oz. I haven’t seen a school play in many many years and I was pleasantly impressed with how smooth it all ran, the admirable acting of the students and the stage corn was brilliant. And Dorothy had an iPod. Really! The Wicked Witch of the West stole the show last night with her over the top cackling – I was secretly scared of her – but with a different cast, you can experience The Wizard of Oz tonight. If you’re not into adorable, you won’t like this. 7:30 tonight at Mountainside Community Church. Tickets can be purchased at the door –  $5 for students and $10 for adults.
