It’s me again. I’m still over here playing with my kids and having little adventures. I’m not spending too much time at the computer but my brain never stops coming up with new ideas and art projects. I’m not sure I’ll have time for the dumpster painting project this year, it’s from Friday, August 30th- Sept 2nd, right after an evening selling my art in Kimberley and just before school starts. If you’re keen on doing a dumpster this year, you need to get your idea in by the end of July.
Right now I’m trying to squeeze in a WonderWalk story for Wapiti, a mural proposal for the Beanpod building, a painting for Art Expo, prep for our next Abstract Lion Art Club in August and another big idea that I’ll tell you about later. There’s so much going on! I love it all but it makes me tired just looking at this list.
The dumpster project is fun and super casual. This year there’s even a $500 fee for selected artists. So that’s a great idea. Who knows. Maybe I’ll even fit a dumpster in this year. Dear me. I’m going to bed.

I get a little nervous before I do something I haven’t done before. Even when it involves teaching a 5 year old! You just don’t know what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised during my first private art lesson how keen my little student was. He wasn’t even phased by my kids plan for watching tv. He tried so hard to understand some fairly complex ideas and we are both looking forward to the next lesson. This makes me so happy! I took a little page from my husband’s book on teaching kids how to mountain bike – show them how to bike by biking with them and making it fun.

You know why I love opening day in Fernie? It’s not what you might expect. Or maybe you know me well enough now to know exactly why I love opening day. Opening day means the start of skiing for my husband and kids…which leaves time for me to paint! YES! It was such a beautiful opening weekend, too. My family had a wonderful time at the hill and I painted until they came home hungry and tired legged. It was a wonderful weekend. It was a particularly good weekend for painting. I also attended a paint and sip type night with Angela Morgan and a group of amazing, supportive women. It was a night of wine, food and also fundraising for Angela’s daughter who wants to build houses in El Salvador. I painted an Angela Morgan type painting in oils, which is a first for me, in two ways. It was a steep learning curve but I embraced my novice inferiority feelings and dove in. Hooray for opening day!
Last year Wapiti launch it’s first Art Expo, a display of about 20 original paintings, and they’re doing it again this year! I am participating in the Art Expo, as well as another Wonder Walk (last year I did Shy Girl) called The Traveller. Next I’ll be on stage painting live. Kidding. I kid. Ew.
Art Expo 2016 was widely praised and appreciated and that’s awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing all the new work in Annex Park!
