Sitting in a cold arena with five layers of clothes on to stay warm and sitting on hard wooden bleachers for two hours doesn’t sound like fun, but it is, especially when you’re watching your friends sort their stuff out on the ice during a friendly birthday hockey game. That’s not completely true, there were was a surprisingly high level of sportsmanship from start to finish. We, the fans, sipped on our hot chocolate, heckled when it felt right and did the wave for the didn’t-even-notice Zamboni driver. Best birthday ever!
Booking the Fernie Arena for 2 hours for a hockey game or skating session is a pretty cool way to spend a birthday. It was approx $110/hr and if you get enough people together, that’s a pretty cheap way to see people slip and fall on the ice. You don’t have to watch America’s Funniest Home Videos for that anymore.
Public Skating hours are:
Tues & Thurs: 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM
Friday: 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM
Saturday: 2 PM to 3:45 PM and 6:45 PM to 8:15 PM
Sunday: 2:15 PM to 4 PM
Public Skating prices are:
Adults: $5.50 Children: $3.25 Seniors & Youth: $4.50 Preschoolers $1.75 or Family: $11.50
