Two of Canada’s finest are coming through! Don’t sleep on this one Fernie!

/// MICHAEL BERNARD FITZGERALD ///

Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (MBF) is a singer and songwriter from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A touring troubadour, most of his time is spent on stage playing clubs, theatres and festivals across North America. He is a dog man with a good plan and two hands.

MBF has shared the stage and toured with Joel Plaskett, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Steve Winwood, Third Eye Blind, Sam Roberts, Stars, K-OS, The Wallflowers, Elliott Brood, Lights and many more. He’s also played Firefly Festival, Mountain Jam, Calgary Folk Music Festival, X Fest, Virgin Fest, Winnpeg Folk Festival The Calgary Stampede and Capital Ex.

/// JJ Shiplett ///

Rugged, raspy and reserved, JJ Shiplett is a true artist. Unapologetically himself, the Alberta born singer-songwriter and performer is bold in range and musical creativity, with a passion and reverence for the art of music and performance that has captured the attention of music fans across the country. A troubadour whose songs resonate with emotional sincerity and an underdog’s enduring hope, he pens anthemic songs that make you believe in something in this hard world, and others that convince you to soak it all in whiskey ‘n’ wine and just go dancin’. Shiplett’s music is all heart: convincing, compelling and resonant. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on his self-penned and produced debut album.

Music Break : The Zolas

The Zolas came to Fernie years ago. I remember seeing them at The Northern, back when we could leave the house without paying a babysitter. They’ve done quite well for themselves since then. Here is a song they put out in 2016 called Why do I Wait (When I Know You’ve Got a Lover) and I lover it.

The East Pointers At The Northern

“Trust us Fernie, you don’t want to miss this show with The East Pointers on Thursday October 11th. Ticket information is available in the event page. It’s an early show (9pm) so you can still try to make it to work on Friday!” from Facebook Northern Bar & Stage

Carmanah At The Northern – Tonight!

The Northern Bar & Stage – Saturday, January 27th from 6-9 pm

“Carmanah is stoked to return to Fernie for a performance at The Northern! Come join us for a night of live music …and reminiscing about the time we played in Fernie when all the town’s power went out so we partied with just the drums for 20 minutes. 🤘🏼

Carmanah has never been afraid to reach deep into the music archives for the gritty vintage flavours that influence its modern sound. The band consistently delivers a dynamic and well-balanced performance that features Laura Mina’s soulful lead vocals supported by strong male harmonies, multiple lead instruments and a driving rhythm section. Poignant songs explore love, nature and the issues of the world. It all adds up to what New York producer Gus Van Go has approvingly coined, ‘West Coast Soul’.

The band’s first commercial album, produced with Van Go and Werner F. at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studios, is slated for release early this year.
