My own personal memory of Mark is being downtown at the dumpster painting and Mark would come by playing music and just giving off positive vibes. I believe he was a believer in art in all forms and appreciated anyone else participating in it.

The Last Waltz For Mark Ferris – Vogue Theatre

“Hi FB Peeps. We don’t usually do this but its been something Rox and I have felt compelled to close the loop on for sometime. On April 20th of 2016 a theatre regular and great guy by the name of Mark Ferris passed away suddenly at the age of 61 from a brain aneurysm. Mark was a music nut, he would often help champion open mic nights at various establishments around town and could regularly be found playing the flute, guitar, spoons around town..literally around the town, On his many visits to the theatre, I always really enjoyed the conversations we had about film and music, He had an odd ritual of not sitting in the theatre until the moment the movie would start. He said that he wanted to see the films without knowing anything about them, so he didn’t want to see any trailers. Which of course would give us time to chat. Well, our last conversation was about the film the Last Waltz, which as it turns out was each of our personal favourites. He asked me that night “if it would ever be possible to show that film at the theatre one night”, I told him that anything is possible and we’d plan for another day to make plans to do that..well Mark died the very next day and unfortunately there wouldn’t be another day for Mark. Our last talk was something I’ve thought about from time to time, and a part of me has been meaning to honour our friend and patron by hosting night of The Last Waltz on the big screen. So here we go! The screening will be free but we will ask that everyone provide a $5.00 donation that we will pay it forward to the The Snow Valley Christmas Cheer Committee run by Jeri and Rhonda. So mark your calendar as we plan on hosting this night on Friday October 26th at 9:00pm. It will be a fun night with a Nova Scotia toonie bar ( we just made that up) and treats. We hope to see you there!” – a message from Vogue Theatre

Fernie On Instagram : Vogue Theatre’s Best Of Business Award

View this post on Instagram

The Vogue Theatre in Fernie, B.C., has been hosting plays and movies since 1908. That’s 110 years of entertainment. In the 1950s, the Vogue Theatre was converted from a live action theatre to a movie cinema. In the ’90s, the main theatre was split into two theatres. In 2007, Dennis Djonlich bought the building and morphed it into its current manifestation. Thanks to a loyal following of residents within Fernie and the surrounding communities, the Vogue Theatre is a 2018 winner in Kootenay Business magazine’s Best of Business Awards. Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story at Vogue Theatre Fernie for Indie Films Fernie

Austrian actress Hedy Lamarr fled an oppressive marriage to create a name for herself as one of Hollywood’s top leading ladies in the 1940s. Behind the glamour and sex appeal, though, was a talented and inquisitive inventor who created a radio system that is now considered the basis of Bluetooth technology.
